NJ Inmates: Do Us a Fava, No More Beans
NEW JERSEY (OCN) — New Jersey inmates are asking for one favor from Essex County and that is no more fava beans.
The fava beans, (see links below for receipes) according to inmates, are giving them excessive gas and abdominal pains. “Some inmates are starting to get lazy.” says Nurse Regina Taylor “Instead of taking part in outside activities, they are watching the TV and surfing the Internet.”
Taylor goes on to say that if inmates would take short walks after eating that it would alleviate their problems.
Fava beans became a popular food item in 1991 after the movie The Silence of the Lambs. In the movie, the character, Hannibal Lecture was quoted as saying “A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.”
So far, inmates are starting to boycott meals that are served with beans and has notified their families to start a petittion to have county remove all beans from the menu.
